Nowadays, it is very hard to find a video game that only concentrates on stealth, but you will notice that lots of titles being released in the world of gaming have the element of stealth in them. Some examples of these video games include Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, Deus Ex, Metal Gear Solid IV and the forthcoming Dishonored. There are also stealth games that have already moved away from the genre for most of its part like Splinter Cell. Does this shift mean that the stealth genre is coming to its end? Is the notion of video games in the stealth genre is too much to survive?

Some video game fanatics out there believe that the best video game in the stealth genre is the Hitman: Blood Money, only if it’s port from last generation. Lots of gamers agree that the stealth video games’ last generation were far more popular compared to the current generation. Looking back, players receive three Hitman games, three Splinter Cell titles and two MGS titles last generation. You probably have some friends who selected Xbox, the original one just to play the Splinter Cell game. But for this generation, you will probably notice that there are no stealth video games being produced.

One of the major reasons why there is a lack of video games in the stealth genre is that lots of companies and developers try to ensure that their video games will fit into the mainstream games market. This is true, especially in this generation of video games as more people are playing games including those who have never played a video game before. Due to this fact, lots of companies feel to have their video games become marketable to almost all types of people for them to make more money. Stealth titles remain an option for them.

The stealth genre has become only an option for these companies and that’s why it was lost in this generation of games. Several titles like Batman AC, Assassin’s Creed Revelation, MGS4, Alpha Protocol, Deus Ex and the forthcoming Dishonored will let lots of players use stealth in order for them to progress in the game.  But it is not necessary that you use stealth to progress in certain levels. If you choose stealth, you will be rewarded in the entirety of the game. But if you want to progress in certain levels, the best way to do that is with blazing weapons.

There is also a big question among gamers whether the Hitman: Absolution will be based on stealth or it will follow the way that other titles in this generation which use stealth as a mere option. What about Splinter Cell? It seems that video games of this generation will go to the survival horror genre and will never return to their roots. Gamers cannot do anything about it but to wait. For now, gamers who are looking for hardcore stealth video games should consider the last generation of video games as they have plenty of titles in the genre.
