I’ve commented before that while Sonic was a great game, it was a bit shallow compared to Super Mario World. By the same token, Bonk was great but not quite as deep as Super Mario Bros. 3. In fact, Bonk plays very much like an extremely vibrant 8-Bit platformer (Well, I guess it actually is.)
That’s not a bad thing by any means but I wonder if this “bang-for-the-buck” perception hurt the TG-16? When I think of my old Duo, I remember Gate/Lord of Thunder, Ys, SFII and others besides Bonk.

I loved this game as a kid. I could ironman it from start to finish without dying.

Ha ha. Yeah, can you believe that they had a “contest” to name the new mascot and the winner came up with ZONK? They added a “Z” and won the contest? What the hell?
I will never forget that. I mean, not that my entry back then was any better (I can’t even remember what I sent in). But, huh? Hmm…….I know…..how about Zario……yeah……. 🙂
