You can use an app called: “Nexus Media Importer” to access data via micro USB without rooting it. Yes I know what you mean, you can also access data internally by using various means but I don’t have enough characters in this response to explain.
actually man i had a problem with the whole no sd card slot thing to but theres an easy fix.
things you will need 1. a Rooted Nexus 7 (wont work without), 2. An OTG cable (which is just a cable with a male micro-usb and a female usb port) 3. the app StickMount (available in the android store) 4. a flashdrive. (OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED– you should look into getting a usb hub preferably something small that way you can hold 4 usb’s at once). there you go now you can use a usb for extra storage
