While the current video games are more impressive, bigger and flashier, the gaming console’s golden era is already far behind. In the 80s and 90s, when new gaming consoles are launched, many gamers will surely sacrifice their bank accounts just to have all of them. The excitement behind the rush is genuine. But now, with this generation’s gaming consoles ageing and just relying on gimmicks to compensate, lots of gamers are not enthused about them anymore.

Out of the blue, something appeared and alas! Ouya came based on 2.6 million dollars it raised for the first day alone. The success of Ouya has reinvigorated the excitement. Maybe you remember that overwhelming feeling that led to the release of consoles, early pictures, the rumors, the speculations and most of all the anticipation for those great video games to be released accompanied with amazing graphics.

But that was before. Nowadays, there is the 99 dollars video game console which was developed by a John Doe company. Though this video game is not that powerful compared to those made by the industry giants, still, there are lots of reasons for you to be excited about the Ouya. This new console is a box that is developer focused because it was positioned for developers. You don’t have to purchase expensive development kits. Each Ouya video game hardware is a digital distribution and dev kit, meaning that retail agreements or publishers are not needed. Despite the load of cropware that will be included with it, Ouya has opened doors for better independent developers.

The Ouya is a gaming-focused box on your TV. This aspect makes it more appealing despite being an android. More importantly, its focus is the traditional console video gaming where the controller of the console controls your character.

Lots of gamers out there are pretty excited about the Ouya because the hardware in somewhat new. It is apparent that the console cycle of this generation dragged on for so long. Many gamers crave for something different. There comes the Ouya which has the capability to push the new golden era of gaming.

Will Ouya succeed? It is too early for that to know. Sure that the console has already raised 2.5 million dollars in just a single day, which is quite impressive for an unknown company. When Wii was launched by Nintendo in Japan, the sales generated by the console is about 80 million dollars in just two day. It will continue to rake 190 million dollars during the first week in America. This is what lots of people call mainstream success.

But what you have to be concerned more about the Ouya is that it is following the path of those tepidly received indie and open video gaming systems such as the EVO 2, Pandora handheld and GP2X. All of them have the same mission statements but none have of them succeeded. At least the Ouya has alreay succeeded in getting the interests of developers and gamers, but whether this hype will be long-term or not remains vague.
